Chicano/Latinos for Community Medicine
The Mission:
- CCM fulfills a variety of functions, and meets a variety of students needs that range from providing a constant source of motivation; energy and emotional support to helping students learn more about the health dynamic and complex nature if our health care system.
- CCM activities also provide experiences with, and insight into, various health careers, and can help undecided students focus their desire to serve the community into a specific career goal.
- The notion of advocacy for the needs of the community continues to be the core of all CCM activities, in hope that this value will shape students' professional lives as health care practitioners.
- Members, who have similar career goals, work collectively to stay in school, study, and succeed. Beyond being accepted into medical school, CCM members work hard while on campus to develop leadership skills through a variety of activities, including serving as role models and providing health screenings to community members at health fairs.
Goals:
- To educate in order to develop a greater awareness of health care problems and issues existing in the critically underserved areas.
- To provide health services and education to the Chicano/Latino communities by conducting various community projects.
- To increase health care delivery to the underserved Chicano/Latino population by returning to our communities and serving our people are trained health professionals.
- To encourage and expose pre-health students to community services and clinical experiences.
