Student services: Student traffic slim during evenings for counseling, EOPS and CalWorks.  Administration will review student traffic to see if evening services need to be continued.

College night coming up this Monday Sept. 10 at the Heritage Center in Tulare from 6:00 to 8:00.  Many juniors and seniors from high schools attend. Over 5,000 people have attended this event.

Science: Disappointment was expressed that our cafeteria closed at 3:30 in the afternoon during the first two weeks of school.  It is quite embarrassing to the faculty who are working hard to create a good impression.  Disappointment was also expressed about the junk heap of old desks and chairs that all students pass by who are attending classes in the PT-2A and PT-2B.  Disappointment was expressed about the number of drinking fountains on campus that do not work well.  Although we are in the middle of construction, the college leadership needs to do better at maintaining existing student services and appearance.

VI.  Old Business

1.  2008-2009 Academic Calendar
Template done - to be discussed by divisions before voting.

2.  Evening services (admin, counseling, etc)
    See above.

3. Campus Security Issues, (lighting, etc.)

Faculty and student safety is a concern of the Academic Senate.  J. Wiens will begin a resolution to be voted on during the next meeting because issues raised last year concerning replacing burned out security lights have not been addressed or performed.  The discussion of faculty and student safety began before the present construction began.

VII. New Business

1. Student Learning Outcomes

Professor French-Unser handed out SLO planning sheet.  Volunteer faculty will participate with the Senate to develop course, program, and certificate SLOs.

Professor Britton shared about the new curriculum handbook, and the curriculum committee will be doing to stream line to make course changes easier.

VIII.  Adjournment:
          12:10

Respectfully submitted

J. Wiens
