Title V regulations – Sara asked for affirmation from the AS to strictly adhere to the written guidelines of the new course and course modification checklist.  It was agreed by all that we should adhere to all Title V regulations in a helpful, non-confrontational manner.  Affirmation was given by general consensus.

5. Division Reports

Adjunct – This week is Campus Equity Week.  Campus Equity Week is a national grassroots effort to highlight the condition of part-time faculty in our colleges and universities.

6. Fall Plenary Session –(C. Britton)

Craig Britton attended the State Academic Senate plenary session October 26-28 in Newport Beach .  He reported that not many colleges have had success or good feelings about intersessions.  A lot of colleges going to the compressed calendar.

7. Student Learning Outcomes

M. Roman brought up the fact that a number of faculty have not been involved in the training for developing student learning outcomes (SLOs).  It was mentioned that Susan Regier does training in SLOs every summer as part of a grant.  Faculty who are uncertain should talk to Susan Regier.

VI.  Old Business

A.  Academic Calendar

Academic calendar:  The district does not have a problem with our desire to have a four week winter break.  They did not support starting summer school before local high school summer vacations begin.  One year Bakersfield College did start summer school before their high schools dismissed for the summer vacation, and their summer school enrollment was very low.  (However, they indicated that other factors such as marketing and not offering the “right” classes were factors.)

The division representative all offered thoughts from their respective faculty.

M:  Four week winter break by D. Bezayiff

S:  C. Britton

C. unanimous

No vote was taken on a start date for summer school.   Bill Henry will be in discussion with the district concerning their expectation of a June 9 date.

VII. New Business

1. Division chair elections

Social science is having an election this fall of 2007.  Although this is the task of the past senate president, David Bezayiff (past AS president and social science faculty) requested an alternate to guide department chair elections.  Craig Britton will be taking the responsibility.

VIII.  Adjournment
M: D. Bezayiff

S:  R. Osborne

Respectfully submitted
