PC President Re-Appointed to COA Board

Dr. Rosa Carlson, President of Porterville College, was recently re-appointment to the COA Board of Directors. Her second consecutive three-year term will run through the 2014 school year.

C. Logan McKechnie, Commissioner of the Central Valley Conference, sent congratulations to Carlson, who will once again represent the CVC on the state COA board for the next three years. According to McKechnie, the board is responsible for the conduct of all junior college sports in the state of California.

“We are honored that Dr. Carlson accepted the nomination for this important position. She has shown outstanding leadership in her positions at two colleges and her experience will be a valued addition to the board,” McKechnie said. “She is dedicated to the observation of the rules for athletic programs and is determined to uphold the standards set by the COA board."

Carlson will also remain on the COA Constitution Committee (Chairperson), COA Academic and Athletic Standards Review Committee, and COA Appeals Committee - making her one of the most active college presidents in statewide athletic policy.

She is also a member of the CVC Board of Directors.

Baseball Team Pitches In

PC head baseball coach Del Marine and a few stars from his team were guest instructors at the Porterville Parks & Leisure 2008 Junior Giants Baseball Clinic on Saturday, June 14. The Pirates helped to coordinate baseball drills for 200 kids, ranging in ages from 5 to 18, at the Porterville Sports Complex.

All of the participants withstood the 100 degree temperature during the five hour camp.

“This was a great experience for the children and our team as well,” Coach Marine said. “I’m not sure who had more fun. We were able to teach the fundamentals of baseball and interact with a great program in our community. We look forward to making this an annual event.”

Porterville Parks & Leisure Services Superintendent Donnie Moore was pleased by the turnout and the new partnership with the PC Athletic Department.

“We appreciate Coach Marine and his players for volunteering their time and expertise,” Moore said. “They did an outstanding job and the event was a huge success.”
