Basketball Philosophy

CLASS ATTENDANCE: You are hear to obtain an education, therefore we place a great emphasis on class attendance. You will be required to attend all classes; we will not accept excuses for missed classes.

GENERAL CONDUCT: As a member of our basketball program you are a select person in the eyes of the community, faculty, and other students. It is your responsibility to conduct yourself in such a way that will keep the image of Porterville College Women’s Basketball at its highest.

APPROACH TO BASKETBALL: Basketball is much like life. In life we compete for jobs, positions and recognition. There will be winners and losers in life just as in basketball and those with the greatest desire to excel are the ones most often that succeed.

Basketball is an educational experience involving many learning principles used in the classroom. Learning comes thru repetition, repetition and experience.

Fundamentals stressing footwork and body position must be repeated until they can be performed by instinct. Execution of correct fundamentals is stressed in all of our practices. Our defense must control the tempo of the game at all times. For this reason, I believe defense if the most important aspect of our team strategy.

Offense is the most complicated area, and for it to be successful, execution must be performed at full speed.

What you do and how successful you are, are controlled by you. Give a maximum effort both physically and mentally at all times.

We should strive to be the very best we can be at all times and in all areas.
