 RESEARCH PROJECT

ASSIGNMENT:

            You are to write a 1000 word research paper that will be due the last week of class.  Please use the template in writing your paper. Click here for template.

INSTRUCTIONS:  

Part 1

     1.    Decide upon a career that you would like to pursue.  You should address what IS skills you will need to be successful in this career.  In addition, you should address what types of software/hardware that you will need to master in order to be successful.   

     2.    You will need to interview a person who is currently working in the field that you desire.  This person should give you career advice in regard to preparing your IS skills.

Part 2

At this point you will configure 3 computers based upon your career needs

     1.     Computer processor must be at least Intel Q6600 Quad-Core 2.4GHz

     2.    Gather information of PCs (NOT MACINTOSH) currently available on the market from computer vendor websites such as www.dell.com, www.gateway.comwww.hp.com, etc.

     3.    Narrow your choices down to three different brands of identical or similar computer configurations.

     4.    Use Word or Excel to create a comparison table which includes attributes such as hardware characteristics, software bundled, warranty, service and technical support, costs (include sales tax and shipping/handling charges if applicable), and refund policy.

     5.    Use Word to type a 1000 word essay (summarizing your research effort and the rationale of your final decision.  You must include a copy of this essay on diskette with your paper to assure that the 1000 word minimum has been met.  If the paper does not meet the minimum length requirements, the highest grade it can receive will be a "D".

     6.    Attach copies of the specification sheets of all the computer models you have included in your report.  Must be attached for credit. 

7.       Start this project early so that you will have plenty of time to conduct product research and comparison.  Your effort will be reflected on the quality of your report.

*IF MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET, THE HIGHEST GRADE IT CAN RECEIVE WILL BE A "D".
