Would you like to get a head start on your college education while you're still in high school? Consider the following...

If you are a high school student planning to major in mathematics or engineering, it will greatly weigh in your favor in the selection process of many 4-year colleges and universities to have completed as many advanced math and science courses as possible before graduating from high school. In order to do this, you may want to explore the possibility of taking some courses at Porterville College. Your college provides many of the courses that form the core of most engineering programs at four-year colleges and universities. For example, PC offers the complete 3-semester Calculus sequence, Differential Equations, calculus-based Physics for Scientists and Engineers, and Chemistry.

We also offer elementary and intermediate algebra and introductory statistics every summer for high school students interested in getting a head start on their math courses. Over the years some students from the area high schools have completed the entire calculus sequence at Porterville College while still attending high school! We occasionally offer geometry in the summer if demand allows for it.

Here's a possible scenario: Suppose you are beginning your freshman year in high school (HS) now or very soon and you want to take some classes at Porterville College (PC). Your schedule might look something like this:

Year Fall Semester Spring Semester 6-Week Summer Session @ PC
Frosh Algebra 1 @ HS Geometry
Soph Algebra 2 @ HS Pre-Calculus
Junior Calculus 1 @ PC Calculus 2 @ PC Statistics
Senior Calculus 3 @ PC Differential Equations @ PC

With this schedule, you will have completed the math requirements for the AA degree in mathematics at Porterville College! That's a total of 26 college credits earned before your high school graduation!
