My Spring 2012 class book lists for POLS P101, HIST P121 and ECON P102, including ISBN numbers, are available below. (They are also available on the PC Bookstore web page)

Many students are asking: "Do I need all of the books? And do I need the iClicker too?"  The answer is an emphatic YES! they are all required, including the iClicker.

Books for POLS P101:  All are REQUIRED (Spring 2012)

REQUIRED:

  • Turner, Charles C., with Stephenson, Bresler, Friedrich, and Karlesky. Introduction to American Government, 6th Edition. 2011. BVT Publishing. ISBN #  978-160229-969-6  (Note, this book is also available as an E-Book from BVT Publishing for $19.99, ISBN #978-1-60229-884-2.  Be sure you read and understand the restrictions on the use of E-Books; for example: you get only a 6-month subscription to use the book, you must use it on only one computer, and you cannot print it.)

  • Van Vechten, Rennee. California Politics: A Primer. CQ Press, 2010 ISBN # 978-1-60426-995-6  (NOTE: the 2nd Edition of this text is now out and our bookstore has both 1st edition and 2nd edition copies available.  Either edition will work fine.  2nd edition ISBN #  is 978-1-4522-0306-5)

  • Bradbury, Ray. Fahrenheit 451. Any unabridged edition of this classic novel is fine.

  • iClicker. This is a standard iClicker, which is absolutely required for this class. It is an electronic device used for in-class polling, quizzes, etc.  One iClicker can be used by a single student for any number of classes at the same time and can be used again in future semesters. Each student MUST have his/her own iClicker and will need to bring it to class daily. iClickers can be resold and registered to a different student in future semesters.  iClickers are available through the PC Bookstore for $40. The PC Bookstore also has a rental program that allows students to rent the clickers for less than purchasing.   iClickers are available through Amazon.com for $34.51 new with free shipping for students.  iClickers are available through Walmart.com for $34.50 with free delivery to your local Walmart store.  Used iClickers are available for less on Amazon's marketplace or through ebay or other online sources.  I will base my class on the original iClicker or iClicker 1. There is also an iClicker 2 now available; if you have an iclicker 2 that will also work in my classes.

  • Ebrey, Patricia Buckley, Anne Walthall, and James Palais, East Asia: A Cultural, Social, and Political History, Second Edition, 2009, Houghton Mifflin ISBN # 9780547005348
  • Buck, Pearl S., The Good Earth. Any edition of this classic novel is fine.
  • Jiang, Ji-li, Red Scarf Girl: A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution. Any unabridged edition of this novel is fine.
  • Hersey, John, Hiroshima. Any unabridged edition of this documentary novel is fine.
  • Linda Sue Park, When My Name Was Keoko. Any unabridged edition of this novel is fine.
