Anatomy P052
                         Joel Wiens   Ed.D.

Hi All,
Hey...one more day! Good studying for your final!

Hi Folks,
Welcome to the summer class of Anatomy/Physiology P052.  I hope we can have a good summer
together!  This class requires a lot of study time to learn a lot of the new terms and locations.
But I am here to help you be successful!  I will introduce the new concepts to you during class time
and give you reviewing hints....but....you must organize your schedule so you have the hours
(yes - hours) necessary to commit that structure/function stuff to memory!  Good luck!

This class examines the basic anatomy and physiology of the human body.  It is designed to fulfill the
requirements of students preparing to enroll in the Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician programs.

S
tudent Learning Outcomes
The students will be able to:

sIdentify the structures and locations of body cells, organs, and systems by matching, labeling,
or writing their names given an in-class exam, lab practical, or lab activity.
sIdentify and compare basic cells and organ physiology by matching, labeling, describing,
and comparing basic cell and organ physiology given an in-class exam, lab practical, or lab activity.
sUse appropriate terminology for describing relationships between body position and body systems
by explaining, comparing, and hypothesizing how body systems interact given an in-class exam, lab
  practical, or lab activity.

Materials
sEssentials of Anatomy and Physiology (5th Edition) by Scanlon and Sanders.
sRuler, colored pencils, seven red ParSCORE forms (1 full page, 6 half page) for tests.

Lecture Grading
 sGrading scale:  90%=A, 80%=B, 70%=C, 60%=D, less than 60%=F.
sMissing a test due to sickness, sick children, medical appointments, and tardiness is not fair
to others who are taking the test at the appropriate time.
You do have more time to study.
sTests missed from excused absences can be made up on the week of the final.
sLab practicals cannot be made up due to time and classroom usage.

sAssignments must be turned in at the next available opportunity after you are absent.
sWork turned in late will be given half credit
.
sIf you start out the class poorly (grade-wise), do not drop until after you have talked to me!

Laboratory Grading

sOne can make-up certain labs, if absent, only by leaving a message for me before the
missed lab.  Other labs (with a high degree of teacher prep) cannot be made up, and
you will be docked appropriately.  On some two-part labs you might receive credit only
for the part of lab you attended.

sLab material can be tested by “lab practicals”.  Students rotate with a time limit to answer
questions.  Lab practical tests that are missed will be counted as missed and assigned a zero.

(Make-ups are not allowed because lab practical tests are too lengthy to set up and require
materials other professors need.)  Remember to communicate your concerns with me on or
      before the test day.

sLab plates (drawings) may be assigned.  Late work will be given partial credit.

s
Because anatomy is memorization, no cell phone pictures should be taken of models or charts.
You have plenty of examples in our books and the Internet.
No Anatomy 52 material may be
removed from the classroom without the teacher’s permission.

Expectations
sPlease no cell phone use during class time.
sFuture health care personnel take this course.  There is competition to enter these fields.  You want to
appear with-it, not easily discouraged, and committed to attendance for the full day’s work and memorization.
sWe go through a lot of new material each class session; we are all in this together.  Sit back, participate, and enjoy.
