Student Conduct and Discipline
The following policies and procedures regarding student conduct and discipline are from the Kern Community College District Board Policy manual (Section 4F8 and Procedures 4F8 - other campus-specific policies and procedures are indicated where appropriate).
A. Board of Trustees Belief Regarding Student Conduct and Discipline
The Board of Trustees of the Kern Community College District, in support of public education and the exercise of general supervision of the campuses of the District, believes that student conduct must reflect the standards of good behavior expected by society. Since public education is furnished by the people of the District, it becomes a privilege for students to have this opportunity to further their education:
- Students shall respect constituted authority. This shall include conformance to State laws, Board regulations, College regulations, and applicable provisions of civil law.
- Students are expected to observe high personal standards of decency, morality, honesty, and social relationships. Student conduct should reflect consideration for the right of others, and students are expected to cooperate with all members of the College community.
- In order to operate effective programs, all College personnel shall be responsible for student conduct, and the College President shall have the right to administer suitable and proper corrective measures for misconduct.
- The Board of Trustees, the College President or designee may suspend a student for good cause. In addition, the Board of Trustees may expel a student for good cause or when the presence of the student causes a continuing danger to the physical safety of the student or others. The Board of Trustees may exclude from attendance in regular classes any student whose physical or mental disability is such as to cause his or her attendance to be inimical to the welfare of other students.
