Taking a Quiz in Moodle

Your Moodle class may include quizzes. If you have a quiz in your class, you'll see it a link to it shown on your class home page, and you can also get to your quiz by clicking on the Quizzes link under the Activities block (some classes may not include the Activities block).  Before you begin a quiz, be sure that you are prepared to take the quiz.  Some important considerations before attempting a quiz:

The instructor has a lot of flexibility in how s/he sets up a quiz in Moodle.  We will try and explain the most common settings that you're likely to encounter when taking a Moodle quiz. When you first click on a link to a quiz, you will see some introductory text that gives you special information or instructions for the quiz.  If the quiz is ready for you to take you will see a button labeled Attempt quiz now. Simply click the button to get started. If your quiz is not yet open it will show the date the quiz opens as in the example below:

Once you click on your quiz, you will see one or more questions on the page.  You might have to scroll down the page to see all the questions.  If the quiz has a time limit, then you'll also see a floating clock ticking down the time remaining. If you go out of the quiz without finishing, the clock will continue to tick down.  You can come back in to the quiz, as long as there is still time remaining on the clock and you did not click the Submit all and finish button.  Your quiz might show all the questions on one page, or you might only see one or a few questions on the page, and will have to click a button to see the next question (or set of questions) as in the example below:

At the end of your quiz you'll find two buttons. The Save without submitting button is meant as a safety feature to save your answers from time to time, while you are working on the quiz. If something happens, like a power failure or something, your answers remain saved. It is a good idea to click this button periodically as you're working on a quiz.

The second button, Submit all and finish, is to submit the quiz when you have answered all the questions.  It is very important to make sure you are done before you click this button.  Also, if you fail to submit a quiz before the time runs out, only the questions that you've answered will be saved and you will receive zeros on all the remaining unanswered questions.

Note that when you click either button you must give the quiz page time to save and reload before moving to another page! This can take some time depending on the the size of the quiz page, the number of essay questions and the speed of your connection. So, before moving to another page, make sure the quiz page has reloaded entirely and the timer (if any) has reappeared!

Depending on the settings made by the teacher, you may be able to review the quiz and see feedback and/or correct answers displayed immediately or you may have to wait. Here is an example of the quiz results page that you might see, again the information you see will depend on the settings your instructor has chosen for the quiz.
