What is Phi Theta Kappa?

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier international honor society for two-year colleges. Phi Theta Kappa members are among the best of the best. Members are given opportunities to both develop personally and to give back to the community through Phi Theta Kappa’s four hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. These opportunities are offered at the local, regional, and international levels.

When does Phi Theta Kappa meet?

   ▪   Regular meetings are held on Friday's at noon in SM 112 (next to our advisor's office). Anyone interested in Phi Theta Kappa is welcome to our meetings. Please view the calendar for scheduled meeting dates.

   ▪   All students and faculty are invited to attend our Lecture Series. In these meetings, a special speaker gives a presentation on an interesting topic.

   ▪   There are regional leadership conventions and conferences throughout California and Nevada.

   ▪   There are also international conventions and conferences throughout the United States which focus on prominent guest speakers discussing our honor's study topic, leadership building, fellowship, scholarship opportunities and service ideas.

Why should I join Phi Theta Kappa?

Accepting membership in Phi Theta Kappa is a great honor. Following are just a few of the many benefits of membership:

   ▪   Scholarships: Over $34 million in transfer scholarships are awarded exclusively to Phi Theta Kappa members.

   ▪   Recognition as a member of the largest and one of the most dynamic honor societies in all of higher education: Membership includes automatic recommendation for inclusion in the prestigious National Dean’s List publication, the privilege of wearing the Honors Stole and Honors Tassel at graduation, the golden key membership pin, and the official membership certificate.

   ▪   Personal Development: Active members may develop leadership/teamwork skills as an officer, through participation on a committee, and/or by participating in service projects. Leadership conferences, Honors Institutes, and conventions are held annually at the regional and international levels.

How do I join?

New members are inducted into our local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa once each semester. To qualify for membership a student must have completed at least 12 credits of associate degree course work at Porterville College with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher.
