Student written samples of the oral language essay:

Norma's  (This one takes a very ordinary experience and uses techniques to animate it.  That will work for some better than others.  Find what works for you.  Go for pacing, action, and appeal to human interest.  Avoid summary narration.)

Peggy's pdf  (This one shares a powerful human experience directly, without any of the "bells and whistles" aka techniques.  It's as if the writer simply got out of the way and let the experience speak for itself.  This can work with a powerful experience.)

Douglass and Jacobs test Do NOT open until you are ready to take the test.  Allow about 3 hours (or more if you are a slow typist).  The test is closed book!  You may use and attach a 3x5 card, however.  There is absolutely no need to quote from the book, but you may do so if you have memorized any quotations. Do not write quotations from the book on your 3x5 card.   You must bring the completed hard copy of the test to class next Weds.
