THE DEGREE …

An Associate in Arts degree in Information Systems is awarded upon successful completion of at least 60 credits with 20 credits from the following two groups:

Required (13 credits)

INFS P100 — Introduction to Information Systems 4 credits
INFS 113 — Structured Programming 3 credits
INFS P210 — Systems Analysis and Design 3 credits
INFS P220 — Data Communications and Networking 3 credits

Electives (7 credits)

BSAD P101 — Introduction to Business 3 credits
INFS P005 — Introduction to Windows 1 credit
INFS P010 — Introduction to Word Processing 2 credits
INFS P020 — Introduction to Spreadsheet 2 credits
INFS P030 — Introduction to Database 2 credits
INFS P050 — Introduction to the Internet 1 credit
INFS P052 — Introduction to Web Design 3 credits
INFS P055 — Internet Research 2 credits
INFS P056 — Web Page Design Practicum 2 credits

A certificate program in Information Systems is also available for students who wish to obtain vocational skills in computer technology without completing the associate degree requirements.

According to the employment projections of U.S. Department of Labor for 2002-2012, seven of ten fastest growing occupations and six of ten occupations with the largest job growth (requiring a BA degree) are in the computer and information technology field. Careers in data communications and networking, computer software engineering, database administration, computer systems analysis and design, and computer information systems management not only are in great demand but also represent the highest quartile income level among all career choices. Regardless of your career choice, computer knowledge and skills are essential to your success both personally and professionally.
