Porterville College and other higher education institutions across the country are recognizing the National First-Generation College Day Celebration! This celebration falls on the 54nd anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. Among the many resources and initiatives connected to the legacy of HEA is the recognition of the experience of those who are the first in their families to attend college.
To promote this celebration, faculty, staff and students who were/are first-generation college students are invited to wear “FIRST GEN PROUD” buttons. Beginning the 8th and throughout the academic year, students, faculty and staff are also encouraged to participate by using the hashtag #PC1stGen in social media posts and pictures.
Join us in front of the Library on November 8th anytime between 9:00 am to 11:00 am as PC joins the celebration with refreshments, buttons, banners for students to sign, a postcard station where you are invited to write thank you cards to those who helped you on your educational journey, and a group photo! Faculty, staff and students are also encouraged to share what being a First-Generation college student means to them.
Hope to see you all out there in support of our First-Gen students!
