High Beginning English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Certificate of Competency in High Beginning English as a Second Language is designed to give students the reading, writing, listening and speaking skills necessary for high-beginning workplace communication and to begin study for the Certificate of Competency in High Intermediate English as a Second Language.

Program Learning Outcomes: write a paragraph on a familiar topic with a topic sentence and supporting details; demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to use, correct capitalization and punctuation; use grammar structures at the high-beginning level; apply knowledge of English pronunciation rules at the high-beginning level; and listen to a passage and identify the main ideas and supporting details at the high-beginning level.
