As the Commencement Ceremony is approaching this Friday, May 10th, please note that the weather forecast currently shows the possibility of rain. The ceremony is still going to be held at the Jamison Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
Although the college has three degree-granting periods, Porterville College holds only one commencement ceremony each year in May. All students who complete a degree in either Fall or Spring of that academic year are eligible to participate. Students must have submitted a Degree Evaluation Petition to the Admissions & Records Office by the posted deadline. Participation in commencement does not guarantee a degree. A final evaluation is done prior to the posting of degrees. It will take approximately two months for the diplomas to be printed although student records are posted sooner.
Candidates will receive a letter via their student email with important commencement information. Each graduate participating in the ceremony will need to stop by the Admissions and Records Office to complete their required informational card prior to the ceremony. Additional information will be addressed in the letter sent out to graduates. The name card will display the name, degree and major as it will be printed on the diploma and the commencement program. If the candidates have any questions regarding their major or name on the diploma they are to go to the Admissions and Records Office.
Tickets are not required for graduation.

Candidates will assemble at 6:30 p.m. at the Student Center. Please arrive with your cap and gown. Your name card will be picked up outside the Student Center. Your name card will be handed to the Dean announcing your name during the ceremony. Balloons are not allowed to be carried by candidates. Please be sure to wear appropriate shoes for the all-weather track; NO spike heels. The ceremony takes place on the grass area inside the Stadium.
In consideration of other graduates and attending guests, please inform family and friends to leave balloons in their vehicles until after the ceremony. Balloons in the stadium block the view of guests sitting behind them. In addition, we ask that no noise making devices (i.e. air horns, whistles, etc.) be used during the ceremony as this disrupts the commencement ceremony, thank you in advance for cooperating.
Barnes and Noble Bookstore will offer a commencement package for sale. Cap, gown and tassel will cost $49.98 plus tax. Individual items are also available for sale: Cap $12.98, tassel $6.98 or bling tassel $10.98. A sample cap and gown are available to try on in the bookstore. Students who have completed at least 60 units in degree applicable letter-graded courses with at least 12 of those units at Porterville College and who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Students will be identified in the Commencement Program as an Honors Graduate.
