What courses do I need to take to complete a certificate?
There are over 25 certificates listed in the college catalog. Certificates are awarded to students upon completion of an instructional program in a specified discipline and are designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required for their chosen field of endeavor. Generally, most courses in the certificate area are specialized to that particular subject area or vocational field and do not require the general education pattern necessary for a degree.
To complete a certificate:
- It is strongly recommended that you either have an initial placement level in English at a “Level 2” or have completed at least English P071 (English P050 recommended) prior to enrolling in any certificate level course.
- Complete the courses required under the certificate as listed in the catalog.
- All courses must be completed with a “C” grade or higher.
- Once you have finished all the courses listed under your certificate, you need to fill out a form in the Office of Admissions requesting the appropriate divisional faculty to evaluate the completion of the certificate requirements.
The certificate programs are designed so that the student, if he or she desires, may continue to take general education requirements after completion of the certificate in an effort to also obtain an Associate degree.
