Porterville College Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine (CCM) is co-sponsoring with UCLA MEDPEP a free Pre-Health Conference at Porterville College on Thursday, March 20 from 2:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The goal of the conference is to expose local high school and community college students interested in pursuing careers in health service to the various career opportunities and pathways available.
The commencing keynote speaker will be Dr. Ramon Resa, M.D., author of “Out of the Fields” and a pediatric physician. The closing keynote speaker will be the world-renowned Dr. David Hayes-Bautista, author of various Latino and health advocacy books, current Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture at the School of Medicine, UCLA. Topics to be covered at the various workshops will include: Medicine (MD), Nursing, Medicine (DO), Pharmacy, Transitioning to a four-year university and Physician’s Assistants.
Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine (CCM) are a student organization at Porterville College comprised of students pursuing a professional medical career. Two of their objectives are to promote the development of a communication network and support structure for students considering a career in health care, and to facilitate activities promoting academic success, matriculation and pre-health career education.
Registration will take place outside the entrance to the Porterville College Theater and workshops will be held in the PC Science and Mathematics Building.
