Don’t miss out! There is still time to register for a Porterville College Community Education course. Community Education courses are designed to meet the needs of the community. These non-credit courses are designed to provide learning and enjoyment in a friendly, worry-free environment at a reasonable cost.
Current spring offerings include: Exercise for the Community, Community Ceramics, EMT Refresher, Fireline Safety for Hired Vendors, Notary Public and Zumba. Pre-registration is required for all classes.
Exercise for the Community takes place Jan. 21 through May 14 on Mondays through Thursdays from 7-8 a.m. and 8-9 a.m. in Rm. FIT 751 in the Fitness Center. Cost is $80 per person. Join at any time. Cost of class is not pro-rated.
Community Ceramics includes the techniques in hand-building, slab-building and wheel throwing. Class starts Feb. 4 and runs through the May. 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 -5:30 p.m. Cost: $60. Supplies not included (please bring bag of clay to class).Clay available at the PC Bookstore.
EMT Refresher will take place Feb. 21, 28, March 7 and 14 on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room. HC 2021. Cost is $185 for the Four-day Refresher course (24 hours); $50 for the One Day Refresher course (8 hours); $80 for the Two Day Refresher course (16 hours); $110 for the Three Day Refresher Course (skills not included) and $80 for the Skills Day alone. Textbook not required, but highly recommended: “Essentials of Emergency Care, A Refresher for the Practicing EMT-B”, Third Edition. The EMT Refresher course is designed for students who possess a current EMT-B card and who need to complete 24 hours of continuing education and sit for the competency-based written and skills certification examination in accordance with the standards of the California State and Health Code, Title 22. Students should possess a current EMT-B card. Students will receive a Certificate of Completion with 24 Continuing Education Units.
Fireline Safety for Hired Vendors will take place March 1, March 29, and April 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the PC Forum. Cost: $70 per person. The PC Fire Technology Department, the U.S. Forest Service and CAL FIRE will offer this one-day training that is required annually for operators of privately-owned equipment used to respond to active wild land fires. Pre-registration/payment required.
Notary Public will take place on April 25 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in AC 105. Cost is $70. You will also need to bring a $40 check or money order to class made payable to “Secretary of State.”
Zumba allows you to get fit while having fun. Zumba sessions will take place each month of the semester from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost: $20 per session. Sign up now for the February session.
