San Francisco Giants World Championship Trophy Tour Presented by Bank of America Visits Porterville

Wednesday, Feb. 25
Porterville College Gymnasium
100 E. College Avenue, Portrerville
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

The San Francisco Giants World Championship Trophy Tour presented by Bank of America will continue its three-month public tour in Porterville, Monday, February 25.  Fans will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the 2010, 2012 and 2014 trophies and to support their local Junior Giants Baseball League by making a voluntary contribution during the trophy viewing.

This will be the third public trophy tour held in the past five years.  The focus of the San Francisco World Championship Trophy Tour presented by Bank of America is to share Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s trophies, crafted by Tiffany & Co., with Giants fans in Junior Giants communities throughout northern California.

Junior Giants is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, which serves more than 20,000 boys and girls in 80 under served communities throughout northern and central California and southern Oregon.  It is a free and non-competitive baseball program that has served as a model for MLB youth initiatives.  Using baseball as the hook, Junior Giants provides opportunities for children to demonstrate confidence and leadership, to link with adult mentors and to develop a strong understanding of the importance of literacy and healthy living.

Locally, the Junior Giants has been running in Porterville for six years and serves over 400 participants annually, many of whom would not normally have the opportunity or means to play baseball.   The Porterville Junior Giants will open registration for its 2015 beginning in May.

We thought you would ask…

Why Porterville?
The Giants have partnered with the local Junior Giants leagues and local city officials in Junior Giants communities throughout Northern California, Southern Oregon and Western Nevada to create public viewings for Giants fans.  The City of Porterville, Parks and Leisure Services established the Junior Giants baseball league back in 2008 and run a very successful program in the community.

What is Junior Giants?
Junior Giants, the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, is a free, non-competitive and innovative baseball program for boys and girls ages 5-18 years old.  More important than the fundamentals of baseball, Junior Giants focuses on the four bases of character development -- Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork -- and offers programs in Education, Health and Violence Prevention.  This program, presented by Bank of America, welcomes kids from all backgrounds and encourages them to live healthy and productive lives by getting outside and playing baseball!

Will any Giants baseball players be accompanying the trophy?
Unfortunately, the players will not be accompanying the trophies.  The Giants' Orange and Black Attack ambassador team will be there to answer questions.

Is there a cost to view the trophies?
There is no charge to attend the Trophy Tour viewing. There will be a suggested donation at each stop to benefit the local Junior Giants League. Fans do have the opportunity to have a professional photo taken with the trophies and can purchase those prints on-site and on-line.

Can fans use their own personal camera or photo device while viewing the trophies?
Fans will be accommodated at each viewing on a first-come, first-served basis. An official photographer will take one photo of each fan with the trophies, and the additional use of personal cameras will be determined by the representatives accompanying the trophies based on the turnout of fans. However, while waiting in line for the official photo with the trophies, fans can use their personal cameras up to a designated spot. The number-one priority of the Giants is to provide the opportunity for as many fans as possible to view the trophies during the scheduled time periods.

Where should I park?
All fans will be directed to park in the Jamison Stadium parking lot just across the street from the PC gymnasium.

Can I hold the trophy?
The trophies will NOT BE ALLOWED to be touched by anyone, except the designated handler and security personnel who will accompany the trophies at all times.

*The Trophies will be on display for two hours during each stop. The Giants intend to accommodate as many fans as possible during the viewing time period. Fans are advised to arrive early as the line will be cut off, if needed, to allow the trophies to leave at the designated end time. A Giants representative will assess and determine a cutoff point in line. A fan who arrives during the designated viewing time is NOT automatically guaranteed a photo with the trophies. Fans are accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.
