PC hosts special Fresno State piano recital

Piano enthusiasts will delight in a special recital featuring the advanced piano students from California State University, Fresno at Porterville College at 12 p.m. Friday, April 10 in the college’s music room (CA-2).

These six students represent the best undergraduate and graduate keyboard majors under the tutelage of Fresno State Professor, Andreas Werz, who presented a recital at PC just a few weeks ago.

Each of the six students will perform solo piano works in this hour-long program. Nick Bell, a sophomore, will play Nocturne in C Minor, Op.48 No.1 by Frederic Chopin. Senior Rebecca Messer will perform Selections from Piano Pieces, Op.119 by Johannes Brahms. Endia Irizzary, a sophomore, will play Selections from Fantasies, Op.116, also by Brahms. Also a sophomore, Daniel Ruiz will play Polonaise in F-sharp Minor, Op.44 of Chopin. Senior Emily Wallace will play selections from Robert Schumann’s Fantasy Pieces, Op. 12, and Master’s Degree candidate Irina Smolyakova will perform Chaconne in D Minor of J.S. Bach/Busoni. Smolyakova played a full recital for Porterville audiences two years ago, also as part of her Master’s Degree preparation. All of these talented musicians are part of the music program at the university and study privately with Professor Werz.

The recital is open to the public and admission is free. A free-will offering will be accepted to defray the performers’ expenses.
