Porterville College will host a special benefit concert for the Andy Messchaert Memorial Endowed Scholarship from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4 in the Porterville College Theater.
Last May, long-time Porterville College Philosophy Professor, Andy Messchaert passed away as a result of injuries received in a bicycling accident. Messchaert was highly respected on campus and to honor his memory, a scholarship has been established in his name. As a result of this scholarship, students for many generations will have the opportunity to further their educations, better their lives, and continue a tradition of academic excellence that was so important to Messchaert. Numerous local musicians are donating their time and talents to make this concert a success. Everyone is welcome to attend and there will be no admission charge. Additionally, free refreshments will be served during the intermission. So how does this raise money for the scholarship? Faculty, staff and community members hope that those in attendance will support the scholarship at whatever level they can afford. Every penny donated will go directly to the Andy Messchaert Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
Performing will be local artists: Keith Crain, Royal Garrison and more. The event is free and open to the public, though donations for the scholarship will be accepted. Porterville College is located at 100 East College Avenue in Porterville. For more information visit www.portervillecollege.edu or call (559) 791-2200.
