Pirates to host Coaches vs. Cancer Game Night

Come support the Porterville College Pirates as they suit up to join an even bigger fight – the fight to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

Porterville College Athletics is hosting a special Coaches vs. Cancer game night on Feb. 13. Women’s basketball takes on Taft at 5 p.m. in the PC Gym and men’s basketball takes on Columbia at 7p.m in the PC Gym. Make a $5 donation to Coaches vs. Cancer (American Cancer Society) and get one free admission into the game. A Wall of Hope will also be set up during the game for guests to personalize a donation for a loved one.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is an opportunity to team up and make a difference in the fight against cancer. Make a donation to remember or honor a loved one. All proceeds will help the American Cancer Society finish the fight against cancer. This is PC Athletic Director Joe Cascio’s fourth year partnering with Coaches vs. Cancer, though it is the first time at PC.

“It is a source of great pride for the basketball and athletics community to be able to use our influence to promote such a worthy cause,” Cascio said. “Every little bit helps.”

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.

“We are collecting donations throughout the community and at the event itself, with the modest goal of raising $1,500, which will be donated entirely to the American Cancer Society,” Cascio said.
