The community is invited to attend two special music recitals at Porterville College in the coming week. “It’s late in the semester, but we still have some wonderful talent to showcase” said Dr. David Hensley, who is Professor of Music at the college.
On Monday, May 1st, the Symphony Brass Quintet will perform at 7:00pm in room CA-2. Comprised of the top brass section players in the Tulare County, Kings County and Bakersfield Symphonies, these five players have appeared numerous times in the past, always delighting the audience with the performance and banter. Their program includes traditional favorites, arranged for brass quintet, and even a few surprises. A free-will offering will be accepted to help defray their transportation costs.
Thursday, May 4th, will be what has become an annual event at Porterville College with the return of the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble. This award-winning vocal quartet (from Russia!) performs a program of Russian church music representing five centuries of history, followed by a program of Russian folk music, all arranged for men’s voices. This concert will be at 7:00pm in the College Theater, and tickets (available in advance from the PC Music office or at the door) are $10.00. The concert is jointly sponsored by the Porterville Friends of Music. “This is a family favorite” Dr. Hensley commented. “They have such a wonderfully blended sound, and their choices of literature always leave us inspired and uplifted. It’s a thrill to have made this international connection, and I hope the community comes to PC to support their west-coast tour” he continued.
Parking is free for both events, and for additional information please call the Music Office at Porterville College at 559-791-2255.
