FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The public is invited to see the Paintings of Jim Campbell at the Porterville College Art Gallery. The exhibition runs from March 11 – 28, 2019. The public is also invited to the opening reception of his show, which is for Thursday evening, March 7th, 5-7 pm, at the Porterville College Art Gallery.

What follows is Jim Campbell’s discussion of his work:

The work in this show spans the years from 2009 - 2018. Some of the pieces are social/political statements. Some were inspired by the little plastic ties that came wrapped around a new fly fishing line. Others are pure geometric abstraction. The most recent work was inspired by images that I see every day in our front and back yards.

Color, scale, texture, composition and form are what guide me in the decision making process while working on a painting. Painters are essentially illusionists who use paint and other mediums in the same way that magicians use tricks and props to fool the eye.

Ultimately, for me, painting is an activity that gives me a sense of well-being. I feel out of sorts if I’m not able to work in my studio for any extended period of time.

Campbell has had a number of solo exhibitions of his work at Gallery 25 in Fresno, California, and also at Fig Tree Gallery and 1821 Gallery & Studios in Fresno, as well. He has also participated in group shows at such venues as Fresno Art Museum and Fresno City Hall.

The show will run from March 11 – 28, 2019. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 12 to 2 pm and 4 to 6 pm.

The opening reception is Thursday evening, March 7th, from 5-7pm. Parking is unrestricted during the time of the reception.

For other times, contact the front desk when you arrive to visit the show for a free temporary parking permit.
