Porterville College will wrap up a year-long celebration of its 90th anniversary with A Night Under the Stars gala event, which will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday on the PC campus.
The event will feature wine tasting provided by Cacciatore Fine Wines, and an hors d’oeuvres menu will be prepared by Chef Pat Coyle, BC professor emeritus.
Attendees will be able to bid on items donated by college staff and community Porterville businesses in a silent auction. Items will include a “de-stress” basket donated by PC library staff, a “Game of Thrones” fan themed basket, a leather recliner donated by Harris Home Furnishings valued at $800, a photograph print donated by Soni Mei Photography, tickets to Six Flags and Disneyland, and a dinner and entertainment package donated by Eagle Mountain Casino.
All proceeds from the event go directly to the Porterville College Foundation, which provides scholarships to PC students as well as financial support for campus initiatives and equipment.
Arlitha Harmon, vice president of administrative services for Porterville College, stated that the theme for the event, like other 90th anniversary events this year such as this past summer’s Sing and Sway event, was to chronicle PC’s journey over the decades through the stories of its students, faculty and staff. The college intends to continue archiving such stories in the future for its 100th anniversary celebration in 2027.
In keeping with that theme, Saturday’s event will also feature a “Then and Now” segment, which will take a light-hearted retrospective look at how the campus, as well as its faculty and staff, have changed over the years.
Those who are not able to attend the event will be able to purchase a commemorative book that takes a retrospective look at the college’s 90 year history through photographs and the reflections of faculty and students.
