This page exists for those who may wish to know a bit more about the Institutional Research staff at Porterville College.
Michael Carley has been Director of Institutional Research at Porterville College since June 2000. Mike grew up in Visalia CA, just 35 miles to the northwest of Porterville. He attended College of the Sequoias and California State University, Fresno, graduating in 1995 with a B.A. in sociology. Mike did his graduate work at Stanford University, obtaining an M.A. in sociology in 1996.
Prior to coming to Porterville College, Mike was a Research Associate at Sociometrics Corporation in Los Altos, CA. There he worked on research projects ranging from adolescent pregnancy and substance abuse prevention to child welfare projects.

Velda Peña has been the Research Analyst at Porterville College since March 2018. Velda is from Taft CA, about 70 miles southwest of Porterville and currently resides in Bakersfield CA. She attended University of Phoenix, graduating in 2005 with a B.A. in Business Administration.
Prior to coming to Porterville College, Velda worked at West Kern Community College/Taft College for approximately 12 years. The last three years she worked as the Research Analyst in the Office of Institutional Assessment, Research and Planning. There she worked on projects with staff, faculty and administrators to provide data needed to support the Districts many plans, grants, state and federal reporting needs as well as various adhoc report requests.
