Innovation and Inspiration: Porterville College Hosts Successful EOPS Region V Conference

The Porterville College campus was buzzing with energy as it played host to this year’s EOPS Region V Conference. Held in the Student Center Dining Room, the day-long event brought together educators, advocates, and leaders from across the region, all dedicated to advancing the mission of the California Community College Extended Opportunity Programs and Services Association (CCCEOPSA).
Starting with a Vision
The day kicked off with an inspiring opening address from Keynote Speaker Dr. Steven Bloomberg, Chancellor of the Kern Community College District. Following his remarks, attendees dove into a series of valuable discussions, workshops, and panels. Each session was strategically designed to uncover new ways to help EOPS students succeed—furthering the program's vital mission to encourage the enrollment, retention, and transfer of students facing language, social, economic, and educational disadvantages.
A Glimpse into the Future of STEM
A major highlight of the conference was the guided campus tours, where Porterville College proudly showcased our state-of-the-art Innovation Centers. Attendees were treated to a firsthand look at some of the latest technologies in STEM, including fascinating presentations on how virtual reality (VR) is transforming the student learning experience both inside and out of the classroom. During the interactive showcase, guests got fully hands-on by testing out cutting-edge VR headsets, exploring the capabilities of 3-D printing, and experimenting with digital 3-D drawing and design tools.
About EOPS & CCCEOPSA
For those unfamiliar, EOPS provides academic, personal, and career counseling, financial resources, and support services that go "over and above" traditional campus resources to ensure student success. The statewide CCCEOPSA association, spanning 116 California Community Colleges, serves as a crucial network for sharing up-to-date information and resources to strengthen these local programs.
