Community Braves the Rain for 5th Annual Porterville College Job Fair
Not even a heavy downpour could dampen the spirits of local job seekers this past Tuesday. Despite the relentless rain that fell throughout the morning, waves of motivated community members showed up at the Porterville College Quad for the 5th Annual Spring Community Job Fair. This annual event is a collaborative effort between Porterville College, the Porterville Adult School, and the Workforce Investment Board of Tulare County.
During the event, the PC campus was transformed into a hub for professional networking. Attendees connected with local business partners and explored over 300 available job openings across a diverse range of industries. Local residents had the unique opportunity to meet face-to-face with recruiters and learn how Porterville College courses might help them achieve their BIG dreams. The sheer variety of partners present highlights the strength of the local economy, with organizations such as Sunrun, Eagle Mountain Casino, and Foster Farms in attendance. Other notable participants included the California Highway Patrol, the Department of State Hospitals, Sierra View Medical Center, and Southern California Edison.
A special highlight of this year's event was the return of Walmart to the Porterville College campus. This marked the first time in nearly eight years that Walmart has participated in an on-campus job event, and Porterville College is proud to celebrate this and all of our community partnerships as we work together to provide career pathways for our community.
In keeping with the mission to serve the entire community, the Job Fair was free and open to the public with no parking permits required for the day. To ensure the event was inclusive, an American Sign Language interpreter was available on-site to assist attendees.
While the rain may have been constant, the energy on the campus was a testament to the resilience and ambition of the region.
