Ribbon Cutting

Porterville College reached a historic milestone this week with the official ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for our state-of-the-art baseball and softball complex. The event, held on March 16th, brought together campus leadership, local officials, and student-athletes to celebrate a project that represents a significant investment in the future of PC sports.

While both teams have already begun their seasons on the new surfaces, this ceremony served as a formal "welcome home". The improvements are a stark contrast to previous years; where athletes once navigated uneven ground and "gopher holes," they now play on premier collegiate fields designed for safety and high-level performance.

For the coaches and players, these facilities are about much more than just "turf and dirt." They are a source of immense pride and a vital tool for the program's growth, bringing elevated morale, collegiate level standards, and deep community connection with better accessibility and a professional aesthetic. These fields have become a focal point for the campus, drawing larger crowds and more community support.

During the ceremony, PC President Primavera Monarrez emphasized that these fields are the beginning of "new chapters for our student-athletes". Porterville Vice Mayor Ed McCurry also honored the athletic department’s dedication to the community by presenting Athletic Director Keith Ford with a city challenge coin.

As Head Baseball Coach JL Buchanan noted, "Words can’t describe the look on their faces the first time they saw it". Now, that excitement is being translated into wins and a renewed sense of Pirate pride.
