SAGE Building Tour

This week, Porterville College (PC) welcomed Congressman David Valadao to campus for an indepth look at the future of healthcare education in the Central Valley. The visit focused on our premier Allied Health programs and the facility that supports them in helping to bridge the regional gap in medical staffing.

The highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the SAGE Building, Porterville College’s state-of-the-art Allied Health careers education facility. Congressman Valadao explored the high-tech labs and simulation suites designed to give students hands-on experience with high level procedures before they enter the clinical workforce.

During the tour, several key features were showcased, beginning with the advanced simulation labs where students practice essential patient care on high-tech interactive mannequins. These facilities are complemented by collaborative learning spaces specifically designed to mirror the flow and function of modern hospital environments. Throughout the visit, the emphasis remained on integrated technology, highlighting the sophisticated tools used to train the next generation of Registered Nurses, Psychiatric Technicians, and Emergency Medical Technicians.

The day highlighted the critical role community colleges play in the local economy, with the conversation focusing heavily on workforce development and the necessity of aligning curriculum with the specific needs of Tulare County healthcare providers. This dialogue extended to the potential for federal support, specifically exploring avenues for continued investment in rural education and vocational training. Ultimately, the discussion underscored the priority of student success, emphasizing the importance of providing local students with the resources required to pursue high-wage, high-demand careers without having to leave the region.

As the Central Valley continues to face a shortage of healthcare professionals, the SAGE Building represents our BIG commitment to the health and prosperity of the Porterville community. It serves as a vital pipeline to Health Care, underscoring the national importance of local vocational training and the continued excellence of Porterville College’s health programs.
