Short-Term Gallery Exhibition Lets You Experience Darkness Through Faculty Eyes

The Porterville College Art Gallery presents Darkness: A Full-Time Faculty Exhibition, featuring works by faculty artists Jackie Buttice, Pascual (Paco) Arriaga, and Diran Lyons. The exhibition runs from September 2 through September 10, 2026.
Taking darkness beyond a visual condition, the exhibition examines the limits of perception, memory, and truth. Jackie Buttice draws on the solar eclipse through large-scale photography and abstract oil painting, exploring how obstruction and materiality alter vision. Paco Arriaga investigates the psychological tolls of societal systems, reflecting on bodily decline, trauma, and erased identities within athletics and the military. Diran Lyons employs the "creative lie" through found objects, photography, and text to destabilize certainty around evidence, authorship, and autobiographical narratives.
Darkness is on view Monday through Thursday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Porterville College Art Gallery. For more information, contact Gallery Director Theodore Lyons at theodore.lyons@portervillecollege.edu
