Acclaimed Journalist María Hinojosa to Speak at Porterville College

Porterville College's PC Writer & Poet Speaker Series is proud to present a virtual event/in person watch party featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist María Hinojosa on October 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. The event, which will be held in the STEM Innovation Center for those who wish to attend in person, will center on Hinojosa's book, Once I Was You (Una Vez Fui Tú).
María Hinojosa's illustrious career as a journalist spans nearly thirty years. Her extensive reporting has been featured on major networks and organizations including PBS, CBS, WGBH, WNBC, CNN, and NPR.
Hinojosa is the anchor and executive producer of the Peabody Award-winning show Latino USA, which is the longest-running national Latinx news program in the country, distributed by PRX. She is also the founding co-anchor of the political podcast In the Thick. Through her work, Hinojosa has played a crucial role in informing millions about the evolving cultural and political landscape both in America and internationally.
Hinojosa is an exceptionally decorated journalist, having won several prestigious awards, including a Pulitzer Prize, four Emmys, two Robert F. Kennedy Awards, the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Overseas Press Club, and the Ruben Salazar Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2022, her seven-part podcast series Suave also won the Pulitzer Prize for Audio Reporting. She has been inducted into the Society of Professional Journalists and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In addition to her anchoring and reporting roles, Hinojosa is a pioneer in media. In 2010, she founded Futuro Media, an independent nonprofit newsroom and production company. The organization's mission is to produce multimedia content specifically from a POC perspective.
