Chief Luis Nevarez at the Premiere of GRIT

The Porterville College and Tulare County communities had special reason to head to the movies last week as we celebrated the premiere of the remarkable story of one of our own instructional partners.

Chief Luis Nevarez, who serves as an instructor for the PC Fire Fighter I Academy, is the subject of a new documentary titled "Grit," which premiered at the Galaxy Theatre in Tulare.

The documentary chronicles the inspiring journey of Chief Nevarez, highlighting his path to becoming Tulare’s first Latino Fire Chief. Known among our students and faculty as an "awesome guy" and a pillar of leadership, Chief Nevarez brings a wealth of real-world experience and passion to the classroom, helping to shape the next generation of first responders right here at Porterville College.

The special screenings of GRIT were held on Monday and Tuesday of this week. While specific showtimes and further details are still being finalized, the premieres serve as a powerful testament to the caliber of instructors guiding our students.

We encourage the PC family to keep an eye out for additional information as it becomes available. Seeing the film is a fantastic opportunity to support a local hero and a valued member of our campus instructional team. Stay tuned for more updates on how you can join us in celebrating Chief Nevarez and his historic career.
