Leadership Porterville Explores PC: A Day of Innovation, Art, & Community Connection

10/16/26
The Leadership Porterville Class poses with the Pirate!
Leadership Porterville took to campus last Thursday, October 15, for a high-energy, behind-the-scenes look at how Porterville College powers our community's future.

The day kicked off in AC-108 with a delicious lunch crafted by our very own Chef Joe Amaya, alongside a warm welcome from Director of Student Success Programs Reagen Dozier and Director of Communications and Community Relations Roger Perez. With appetites settled, the group hit the ground running, starting at the Basic Needs Center where Program Technician Yatziry Mendez showcased how we support students tackling food and housing insecurity. Next up, Counselors Stephanie Olmedo-Hinde and Ray Alvarado highlighted our 4-year university partnerships and career pathways at the Transfer and Career Center.

The excitement continued in the Fine Arts building, where Art Professors Diran Lyons and Jackie Buttice gave an exclusive tour of the current "As I Am" and "Fire Watcher" exhibitions, complete with custom art student designed t-shirts and a fun green-screen photo session.

From there, Reagen Dozier gave a tour of the Learning Resource Center, including the PC Innovation Centers, Peer Mentors and Testing Center. Executive Assistant to the President Maribel Hernandez and several student ambassadors joined the group at the site of our brand-new Student Building currently under construction to discuss the incredible impact it will have once complete.

Finally, Nursing Director Dr. Joy Pieper and Psych Tech Instructor Dr. Elizabeth Keele wrapped up the day in the SAGE building with a tour of our state-leading health careers training facilities.

Thank you to Leadership Porterville for visiting and for continuing to strengthen the incredible partnership between our campus and community!
