Dear Porterville College Community,
We are excited to announce the beginning of the first phase of a road construction project to improve traffic flow and accessibility on our campus. This project, funded through Measure J and Measure G funds, will involve the closure of College Avenue to Main Street and the creation of a new, more user-friendly campus entrance named "Triunfo Avenue."
Porterville College and the Kern Community College District are working diligently with contractors to ensure a smooth construction process and minimal disruption to the surrounding neighborhoods during the traffic transition.
Here's a breakdown of what to expect in the coming months:
Phase 1
- Work on the Vacant Property Southeast of Jamison Stadium (March 11th – August 1st): This initial phase focuses on the vacant property to the southeast of Jamison Stadium
and will not immediately impact traffic flow on campus or Main Street. Construction
equipment will be staged and mobilized, with asphalt demolition beginning in the stadium
parking lot. Access for this work will be through Plano Street and Main Street, minimizing
disruption on College Avenue.
- Triunfo Avenue Construction: After completion of the demolition, construction will commence on Triunfo Avenue, establishing the East-West connection from Plano Street to Main Street. Shortly after that, work will begin on the new South College Avenue portion.
Phase 2
- College Avenue Tie-In (June – TBD): To minimize disruption during peak times, the new "knuckle" connection from College Avenue to South College Avenue is scheduled to begin in June, after Pioneer Middle School's regular session concludes.
Construction Schedule and Considerations:
Construction hours have been set from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with no planned Saturday work to reduce noise for residents. Summer construction hours may be adjusted due to extreme weather conditions. We will provide further communication regarding any schedule changes.
We understand that construction can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve the Porterville College campus for everyone. We will continue to provide updates throughout the project.
