The Foster Youth Success Program (FYSP) supports current and former foster youth and homeless/unaccompanied youth reaching for higher education.

Program Overview:

  • Provides individual Support and hands-on guidance from application to degree completion
  • Provides academic, personal, and career counseling
  • Assistance with completion of the financial aid application, scholarships and Chafee Grant, if eligible
  • Priority registration
  • Career exploration, transfer planning, and competition of student education plan (SEP)
  • Free school supplies, hygiene kits, and Porterville College parking permit (contingent upon funding)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a current Porterville College student
  • Open to all ages of student who have experienced foster care, legal guardianship, or emancipation
  • Homeless Youth as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
  • Documentation/verification required, assistance will be provided
  • Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application
