Portrait of Michael Carley

Michael Carley has been Director of Institutional Research at Porterville College since June 2000.  Mike grew up in Visalia CA, just 35 miles to the northwest of Porterville.  He attended College of the Sequoias and California State University, Fresno, graduating in 1995 with a B.A. in sociology.  Mike did his graduate work at Stanford University, obtaining an M.A. in sociology in 1996. 

Prior to coming to Porterville College, Mike was a Research Associate at Sociometrics Corporation in Los Altos, CA.  There he worked on research projects ranging from adolescent pregnancy and substance abuse prevention to child welfare projects.

DJ Vanderwerff joined Porterville College as a Research Analyst in May of 2019.  DJ is originally from Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated cum laude with a BA in Accounting from Ashford University in San Diego in 2010.  He earned an MBA from Virginia College online in 2012.

Prior to coming to Porterville College, DJ worked in Financial Aid office management at Bakersfield College, and at Western Nebraska Community College beginning in 2013.  His experience with education finance began in 2004 when he worked as a loan consultant for a student loan lender in San Diego.  DJ enjoys improving efficiency, and as such, he helped convert various paper processes into electronic processes throughout his career.  He is very familiar with using reports and data analysis to improve regulatory compliance, and student success.
