BIT stands for Behavioral Intervention Team. The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) at Porterville College is a collective of
mental health therapists and faculty who assess and respond to student behavior that
may indicate a safety risk, mental health concern, or need for support.
Anyone, including faculty, staff, students, or community members can make a referral if they’re
concerned about a student.
Some examples include:
Sudden drop in grades or attendance
Depression or extreme anxiety
Substance abuse
Odd or erratic behavior
Suicidal thoughts or self-harm
If you’re unsure whether to report—it’s better to report and let BIT assess the situation.

or presents a serious threat to safety, BIT may refer the case to the Standards of Student Conduct Board or Campus Security, and disciplinary action could follow. The goal of BIT is to help students before things reach a crisis or conduct issue, but in some cases, both support and discipline
may be necessary to ensure campus safety.
